Teen Challenge of Texas hosted its first annual 5K Freedom Run/Walk on December 14, 2013 at OP Schnabel Park-Graff Pavilion in San Antonio, Texas.  298 runners/walkers participated in the 5K.

“The 5K was an awesome cooperative effort from many groups in our San Antonio community,” said Teen Challenge of Texas president George Thomas.  “We all run 5Ks for different reasons, but running for ‘freedom’ is the highest purpose you can run for.”

Teen Challenge staff, students, friends, and family were all part of the big race.  The community came together to support a great cause.  Teen Challenge student Ashley said, “It was a success event and I so enjoyed seeing the support we received from all of the different areas of the community.”

Teen Challenge staff member Sabrina said, “It was a lot of fun and things went so smoothly.  This was the best event I have been to yet for Teen Challenge.

Our four major sponsors included Tammy and Greg Haley, HEB, Knights of Columbus, and Bulverde Lions Club. Numerous volunteers came out to help with the event.  The Joint Personal Property Shipping Office of San Antonio really helped with setting up everything.  Commander Lt. Colonel Jeff Moore; Herb Schlect, GS-13 USAF; and Enrique Maldonado, TSGT, USAF were also a great help.

Thank you to the Athlete Guild and to ALL of our volunteers, sponsors, donors, and participants who helped make this year’s first 5K Freedom Run a great success!
